This book is currently being used to satisfy the Common Core Writing Curriculum. It's an excellent model of a persuasive essay for elementary students, but can certainly be used as a mentor text for middle school too.

The book “Should There Be Zoos?: A Persuasive Text” is written by Tony Stead, Judy Ballester, the book talks about the pros and cons of zoos. One thing I like about the book is that the author talks about the topic from a unique point of view, it talks in a very unbiased way, it points out all the negative and positive and it never agrees with one side, it just simply points out the pros and cons. IF you want to about the pro and cons of zoos you should read this book, this book includes information throughout a wide range of topics, such as zoochosis, captive breeding and reintroduction, entertainment, death and disease, research and education, natural habitat, and protection and care. I would recommend this book who want to learn about the pros and cons of zoos or anyone who generally like to learn about the issue around the worlds.

This book is a persuasive book. I like how the author makes connections to himself and tells stories that has connections with zoos, and captivity breeding. It gives facts and then examples of connections to support the thought of his own.
