Matched is about a sixteen year old girl named Cassia Reyes whose life is planned out with her having very minimal choices that she will make herself-such as who she will marry, where she will work, and when she will die. In the society that Cassia lives in, they find out who they will marry during the Matching Ceremony, when they are sixteen. The two people Matched together soon meet, then spend the next few years memorizing things about the other, because they are not from the same city. In fact, the first time they see their future spouse is up on a screen during their Matching Ceremony. When she realizes that the boy she is Matched with is from her town, Mapletree Borough, Cassia is overwhelmed with feelings. She is unsure if she wants to be married to someone that she has probably met before, even though they are matched based on their similarities, such as favorite color, favorite recreational activity, and favorite leisure activity. When she is picked to be Matched with her best friend, Xander, Cassia becomes immensely excited. When they turn twenty-one, they will be married! But when she looks at a picture of him on the Matching screen before bed, she sees Xander's face, then the face of a complete stranger…and then a blank screen. When Cassia is faced between the one she knows, who is perfect with her, and the other boy on the screen, who she has never met, but longs for, she is faced with a choice unknown to any other in her society-between perfection and passion.

As the book starts out, you will find that there are not just one shady character, but several, and many more that help, and hurt the Underwood family. You will find some family surprises, as well as a special family member that has some really exclusive access. The Underwood family consists of (at the beginning-middle of the book) Noah, his younger sister Abbey, and the parents Mr. and Mrs.Underwood. If you care about the environment, your awareness will be put to shame by Noah's father and the determination that his children have to protect it and their local town from insanitary water to fishy casino owners. Mr.Underwood ends up going to jail for faulty reasons and bartenders that you have mixed feelings about end up helping the children on their quest to sink the Coral Queen casino boat.

I also read the English version, it was all that I could find on the farm, and I found that most of the surviving first book characters were continued in Catching Fire. The Quarter Quell is back again and another girl and boy Hunger Game survivor from each district are chosen, but District 12 doesn't have more than one female survivor, which is bad news for Katniss. It brings in characters that Katniss has only watched in the Hunger Game videos and ones that she has just now met. Heartbreak, death, sadness, and hunger for death and food are brought in as well as many injuries in all of the Districts given by the so-called Peacekeepers. I especially enjoyed the twist ending which, yet again, brings on more than one Hunger Games winners, but htis time, they are unofficial. As the story unfolds, you will have mixed feelings about your favorite and hated characters, and not only will the past characters be remembered, but your emotions will come out.
