Tales from the Odyssey (part one) is a retell of Homer's Odyssey where you follow Odysseus and his adventures after some soldiers disrespected the temple of Athena during the battle in Troy. Odysseus' men have disrespected the gods and have now punished them. Now, Odysseus is battling his life just to get home to Ithaca alive. I connected with the book from my love of Greek tales and myths (or any kind tales and myths from and country, really. Greek myths just fascinate me the most ). The connection I made with this book is Odysseus' determination to survive and return home (and if I'm being honest, many kids in school just wants to survive class and go home, myself included (no I'm not failing classes, I'm just tired, that's all)). The reason this is a five star review is because I love Greek myths like this and the storytelling was great for me.

Carter and Sadie Kane haven't been the same since their mother's death. Carter travels the world with their dad Julius Kane, and Sadie lives in London with her grandparents. Everything changes when Julius takes them to a museum on their one of two days annual meet. He sets free the Egyptian god Set, who banishes him and forces the siblings to run. After, they find out that the world of Egyptian gods are awakening, and the worst of them, Set is after them and domination of the rest of the world. Carter and Sadie must go on an epic quest to stop him, but also find out many secrets about them and their family. I connected to this book because I related how it was to see a distant family member after some years. I give this book 5 stars because the story plot is tremendous, and the timeline and the character traits all fit in well together.

In the 1841, Manjiro and his friends are out fishing in Japan, but a huge storm comes by! They get stuck on an island, and things seem bleak for them. Awhile later, an American ship comes and saves them! They are taken to Hawaii and they can't understand English, or know where they come from. Manjiro leaves to go to America with the captain, but his friends stay behind. He meets friends, has some confrontations, and takes responsibility for his life, but in all is still very homesick. Will he ever get home? Read Heart of a Samurai to find out. I connected to this book, because I understand how Manjiro felt when he felt homesick and wanted to go back to Japan. I rate this book 5 stars because it gives you the dates of every new chapter, and the development and story line is enticing and hard to put down.

The Misfits is a book where four kids in seventh grade are best friends who have one thing that they definitely have in common, their misfits. That's what the school thinks of them anyways. The name-calling and bullying are targeted to them and many others. One day and becomes too much and the Gang of Five (that's their group name, there's only four people in the group) set up a plan to end it. The Misfits does an absolute job at bring up the topics of bullying in school and other sensitive topics, the book handles the plot well and connects with people who also struggle with bullying, that's why this review is a five stars. For me, I can say that I can connect to the book when the main cast is tired of the bullying(I hope that's for a lot of people). I can recommend this book to grades 5 and higher who like realistic fiction.
