This book was my ideal escape into the fantasy world. It went into a anarchic future like the Hunger Games, but it featured a poor girl in the middle of a fierce competition for the heart of a prince. The idea wasn't really unique, but I thought the idea of wearing gowns, going to balls, and competing against people was fun.

Being the second book, it kind of became boring. I still read the whole book, but it wasn't as good as the first book.

This book was very realistic and I liked how it was from a "mean girl viewpoint." It really made me think about life and the choices I make. I found it easy to relate to and fun to read.

This book was the epitome of fantasy writing. I absolutely love Emily Rodda as she is the most amazing writer ever. Her books (especially the Deltora Quest series) are so much fun to read and really enchanting. The ideas behind these books are just marvelous and so wittily crafted that I sometimes read one book over and over seven times.

I loved the espionage theme in the book. I also thought that there were a lot of dynamic twists in the story that made it very interesting to read. I would've loved to be the main character and go on a covert mission dealing with fashion.

This book is the first in the Deltora Quest series and is a very good read. I have read it so many times over the summer that I could practically recite a chapter from memory. The plot line is very good and there are plenty of twists and turns to keep you interested.

This is one of the rare occasions where the second book in the series is just as good as the first. Maybe even better! I loved the characters and the plot. Even though I usually don't go for fable-type stories, this is a must!

    M. I. McAllister must be a very good writer because I usually never continue beyond the second book of a series. Usually, it gets worse and worse as the series progresses. However, this book was just as good as the second and first.

Being one of the books of the Deltora Quest series, it was insanely good and enchanting as always. I have always loved the Deltora Quest series and I cannot wait to read the other books in the series.

I thought that the plot was very good and the characters and their histories were very well spun. I really liked the idea of witches singing beautiful songs to cast spells. I also liked how the witches were portrayed as beautiful instead of the old hag that you usually picture when you think of a witch.
