It really was horrible what they did to those women. Sometimes they didn't even show any sign of practicing witchcraft. The men could basically make fake accusations that a women was supposedly a witch and most of the time people believed them. Although I have also heard of something where if a person was accused of which craft they would put the person's body in water (at the time they believed that water was pure). If the person's body sunk, the water was excepting them and were deemed not a witch. If their body was floating then the water was rejecting them and were therefore deemed a witch.
