While Frankenstorm Sandy ruined Halloween for the residents of New York, the dogs were not as unfortunate. That's because they were lucky enough to celebrate their holiday about ten days ago and show off their cool costumes at the country's biggest and most elaborate Halloween Parade for dogs.

Now in its 22nd year, Tompkin Square's canine parade is famous for the extraordinary lengths owners and their pooches go through, to win the coveted title of 'Best in Show'. This year was no exception. On Sunday October 21st, hundreds of pets and their doting owners came together and waited patiently for their five minutes of fame in costumes that ranged from the ordinary to those that were well - A little over the top!

There was a furry bumblebee, a striped 'dragon' Yorkie with an extra long tail, a Chia 'bulldog' and even, a green 'Martian' named Wilson.

And to prove that even canines keep abreast of political issues there was an 'unemployed' Big Bird complete with a 'will work for treats' sign, as well as, one dressed as a large soda in protest of the recent ban of super-sized drinks by the city's mayor, Michael Bloomberg.

Children's fairy tales were also well represented with Red Riding Hood and her 'friendly wolf' or should we say 'woof dog' and to ensure superheroes would not feel left out, there was super canine 'Batdog'.

While all the outfits were pretty cool, there could only be only one winner. That honor went to none other than this ornately dressed Evita pug, that looked as though it was about to break out into a tune!

Have a Happy and Safe Halloween!
